The ClubHouse Reports
September 16, 2005
What a fantastic end to the 2005 season - Beautiful weather and some wonderful fish. Twenty-one tyee in 3 days and lots of Chinook released - it seemed like July not September! Frank Glassner's 42.5 lb spring topped the trip and the big released Chinook was Shelley Bancroft's 38 lb beauty.
It is with a bit of sadness that we close up The Clubhouse for another year, but with so many of you planning on coming back to visit us next year, we're already looking forward to 2006!

The Chinooks and Coho are presenting good fishing between Cohoe and Andrews Points only slowing when our "resident" Orcas show up. This pod of about 70 whales has been circumnavigating the Queen Charlottes this whole summer, appearing at Langara Island every 10 to 14 days. Even the most ardent fisherman can't help admire their beauty and grace. The El Nino type waters around Langara (6-8(F above average) has seen some unusual fish appear over the past few weeks. On August 29th, Mike Brancroft landed only the second Opah (Moonfish) in Clubhouse history. His 55 LB beauty (it truly is a beautiful fish) looks exactly like it's larger brother, which hangs in the Clubhouse Lounge. Mike and his wife Shelley both caught and released 41 LB kings while 18 others joined The Clubhouse Tyee Club.
Better sized Springs combined with plentiful Coho are appearing as September arrives!

With September just around the corner, we are continuing to see an increase in the average size of Springs and Coho. Clendon Stewart # 5’s and #6’s are working well (both chrome and 50/50 chrome/brass) although cut and plug herring is showing very good results. The west side of the island keeps producing good size halibut and the old stand by, Cohoe Point, has sprung back to life with it’s delivery of all five Pacific salmon species. Good size Coho – 12 to 16 lbs – are being steadily found, although the recent splurge of Sockeye has dwindled.

These past two trips showed some very interesting results. A new run of Chinook brought in some heavier fish along with an abundance of Sockeye.
Sockeye don't commonly visit these waters and their appearance has created quite a stir. Cohoe Point and Dibrell Bay, along with Gunia Point to Pillar Rock are the places to be when fishing Langara Island. Cut and Plug Herring is working well for Chinook and Coho, while anything red brings in Sockeye.
Big Halibut continue to show Big Results for Clubhouse members this season.
Earlier this year, on July 11th, young Greyson Nelson brought in his 240 lb halibut, surpassing Mark Kellett's two-year-old record by 35 lb. On August 16th, Al Shankle's 246 lb hali set a new mark - one that everyone felt was bound to stand for years. Mike Murphy wasn't a believer though. Just 3 days later, he and guide Gerry Ayson hauled their 296 lb monster onto The Clubhouse scales, setting once again a new Clubhouse record!
