The ClubHouse Reports
August 14, 2008
I cant see a quarter mile, thick drizzle and fog, so I find myself hammering out a quick fishing update. It is Thursday afternoon, we are just waiting arrival of our new guests. What a season of crazy weather.
Peterbilt has just spent the last four days with us, great to see Dave Climie and the boys again. Dave commented to me the trip was the fairest fishing he has seen with the group, meaning all guests caught some great chinook and coho, most grabbing their limit. The largest chinook was taken by Dave Carr fishing with Peter Focker, caught offshore Bolder Bay, in like 130 feet of water. Wow, great catch. A total of ten tyee were taken by the group, and the coho action was awesome at times, averaging 9 to 11 lbs.
Too rough for halibut fishing, 12 to 15 foot swells from the south west, proved uncomfortable and not fishable. So we all concentrated on the east side of Langara, fishing Coho Point to Langara Rocks. Scott Baker found several pockets of chinook up at Noname, fishing with Gary Haden. These were nice high twenties fish and no traffic around, just whales and birds, so a great little fishery. I snuck up yesterday and grabbed a few as well with John Fader, great to be out of boat traffic and fish somewhere differant.
Jordie took the Bissets down to the Cabbage patch and Leslie grabbed a 39.5 first day of the trip. She looked very happy with that, as did David. This south side or top end of Graham Island is slowing down again but there is still the odd monster to be had. Jack Gucker worked boulder bay as hard as humanly possible and dragged a few chinook out, but yesterday it was dry for the most part. I think Jack personally knows every strand of kelp by name haha. We all know where he is, no need to ask on the radio.

Our previous trip Aug 7th to 10th saw 15 tyee, topped by a released 47 lb fish, caught by Hugh Kelsey. What a trip for Hugh as he had a 32 lb fish as well. Harold Shury took a 39 lb fish for second place, and we had another 13 tyees so a good trip for sure. Long time guest Tom Holloran snuck a 31.5 lb fish in, Tom has been fishing North Island and the Clubhouse forever, and caught tyees into the fifties. Years ago I remember releasing a 56 for Tom at Coho point.
Gee we are still in a weather delay, so we will see what today brings. Unusual weather for sure, keeps us all guessing. These south east winds are not common for mid summer, makes you happy you are fishing in large Boston Whalers. I have the 27 foot outrage with the twin 200 Verados and am happy with this ride. At coho point in a 6 foot side chop on in twenty five knots of wind , the only way to go baby!
So we will see you all soon, looking forward to better weather and lots of great fishing ahead.
