The ClubHouse Reports
June 8 – 12, 2008
The last couple weeks have been tougher than usual both weather wise and fish wise. That being said, Neal Warner fishing with his three friends in the Pattison group, teamed up with me for a 35 lb chinook and a nice 21 lb chinook trolling off the east side of Langara. We took the 35 lb fish at 40 feet on the downrigger, with a 5 inch herring. The 21 lb chinook took a freshly jigged herring , actually inhaled it, soon as we sent it down to 53 feet. Things dried up after those two fish. So far Neal’s fish is the largest for the trip. Scott Baker guided the Shigaki group into a 31 lber down at the Jalun River, where fishing has been hot and cold, with most of the springs being 20 lbs or under. We heard of a mid fifties released by a guest from a local lodge in the same area.
We had long time guest Ron Lanning and the Mack group visit us again and they saw some decent fishing. On Sunday, first day of the trip , Kuiama guided Chris Kuykendall, who successfully released a 41 lb chinook at Cohoe Point. They found this fish a little offshore on a trolling tack heading out of the area towards Andrews Point. Needless to say Kuiama and his guests returned to Cohoe Point in short order. The trip was okay for most of the guides and guests, but the weather was bitterly cold with southwest winds then gale northwest winds pounding us. The water was okay tucked in the old mans spot at Little Cohoe but jeez we were all cold and I never get cold. We were so happy when our candy boat showed up on time with hot beverages , a real hero haha!.
Ron Lanning and his brother had good fishing with me on the 11th, we released a 30 lb fish and a 28 in the am and measured and released a 31 in the pm. The 30 and the 28 were a double header with a sea lion doing his best to pick off my release attempt, I did not feel good having my limbs flailing away in the water with a tyee dangling in my hands, but the fish did swim off successfully. The chinook were taken shallow on the riggers at 30 and 40 feet. I had a dummy flasher working off the cable and it seemed to be helping. I did see a fair number of smaller springs on the trip in the mid teens and we all had some in the twenties as well, decent trip for sure.
See you soon!
