North Island Lodge Reports
June 16-20, 2008
The southwest winds eased this trip and it was time to venture west for both salmon and halibut. Tough slugging on the salmon front had Jim Chow and Cal Wambolt looking offshore to fill their fish boxes returning with 95lb and 38lb hali’s. Jim also found a 31 lb Tyee off of Lacy Island...These experienced Victoria anglers seemed to know their stuff.
A classic and personal favorite, Seath Point paid off for Michael Hadfield and Eric Charman releasing a 47.8lb spring fishing a firecracker herring. Michael led the $15,000 Spring Salmon Challenge for one day only to be overtaken by Clubhouse guest Frank Fezza by 1 pound. Michael was a hero for a day and still walked away with a West Coast Fishing Club leather jacket for returning his fish back into the gene pool for future generations. The race is tight for the Spring Salmon Challenge with 10 days left. Chinook numbers have not been traditional as of late but we have seen some trophy sized fish around Langara which is sure to generate some excitement in the coming week.
