North Island Lodge Reports

July 14 - 18, 2008

Day one started out fairly strong this trip with some nice fish in the 20 to 30lb class including; Nick Camerons 30lber and a couple of Boulder Bay Chinook in the high twenties by the Masef’s. By day two the coho were thick with most guests having steady action down at the “Cabbage Patch”, located just past Pillar Bay. Some Chinook were also found in the mix and old faithful Cohoe Point did not disappoint for young angler George Albrecht who landed his 34lb Tyee off “The Pin”.

Spending back to back trips with us, Christina and Richard Masef hit the dock glowing after their Sunday morning fish. I knew something big happened because all he kept saying while tying up the boat was, “I just want to see your face when you look at this one”. I thought to myself, “I’ve heard this before…30, 40…I wonder”. Flipping the lid on his fish tub answered all my questions and knowing this was something more than a just a large fish. This was a fish of a lifetime…a 60lber. Netted off the bow by his wife Christina, I could sense the excitement and tension that must have taken place during the 45 min battle. ..A true marriage tester I would have to say.  It’s great to see people have success when they show such enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards the sport. Way to go Richard! Guides are bidding on that funny thing you had on the front of your herring. I’ll let you know what it goes for.

Langara Island is now showing consistent numbers of Chinook and Coho. We’re sure looking forward to what’s headed our way next!
