North Island Lodge Reports

July 21 - 25, 2008

Once again some familiar faces set foot on our dock this trip and the excitement on our dock was evident. News of some decent fish around spread fast and after a quick brunch guests suited up and headed in pursuit of Tyee. The first afternoon most worked hard for their salmon with Claude Tate finding a 41lb Tyee to stir things up.

There was a little more action on day two with guests finding a total of 3 Tyee. Gordon Parker found a 30, young Jake Merrill’s first Chinook was a 37lber and experienced angler Howard “The King” Bishop rolled in with a 37lber.

The action continued on day three with solid numbers of Coho and Chinook keeping everyone on their toes. Long time guest Jerry Peppin worked a 32 to the net and Steve Ross received a 40+ pin for his 42lb Chinook.

The last full day saw fewer numbers of Chinook but for those that managed to find fish, size was definitely not an issue. Doug Smith produced a 38.5, Don Naumann came in with a 41 and Helbe Myerstad, fishing with young up-and-comer guide Matt Connelley, came in fist pumping after a good battle with a 50lber.

We are currently finding fish in most of the usual spots; Cohoe Pt, Andrews Pt, Boulder Bay and new addition “The Cabbage Patch”, a large kelp bed located just east of Pillar Bay.  We are just past the mid-season mark now and things are certainly busy around here. Both halibut and salmon are consistently hitting the dock…Have to run and see what’s happening on the dock tonight.
