North Island Lodge Reports
July 4 - 7, 2008
The trend continued this week as we struggled to adapt to the high numbers of pink salmon. Although the Chinook numbers were certainly down from previous years at this time, some very nice fish were taken. Ken Sommerville with a 39lber, Richard Zapernick found a 40lber and Chris Wardle eased a 40lber to the net. Cohoe and Andrews points seem to be the producers, once again the downriggers set at 90-120ft.
Under the current conditions, I would have to say guide DJ and the McConaughy family were certainly dialed in, producing on every shift. His secret you ask…large plugs and spoons set at 90-120ft mark and sticking to the known spots along the east side of Langara. At first, I asked him what he was doing different and his response was, “Just plucking away at them”….job security I guess?
