North Island Lodge Reports
Junr 2 - 10, 2008
Hello and welcome to the 2008 season at North Island lodge!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff here for really putting in an extraordinary effort getting us in position and geared up for the season. The lodge looks great; Walter’s food has been excellent, and the boats are performing well with their new Yamaha engines, control units and Sounder/GPS combos.
On the fishing front, a little preseason test fishery to get the blood pumping resulted in our sous chef Randy Milito and guide Jason Wilson releasing a 46lb Chinook. Several guides and staff rushed over to have a peek at the beast but no one had a camera onboard. Oh well! I think that memory is firmly etched in Randy’s mind as he already recited the story several times…Sorry Randy you cannot enter your fish in the Spring Salmon Challenge but a very nice fish indeed.
The first helicopter touched down on our dock June 2nd. Out of the gate fishing was a little tough, but those guests who managed to connect with species of the silver variety saw a couple of decent sized fish. Long time guest Bruce Currie made sure everyone at the lodge knew he had back to back Tyee. I don’t know what was worse, him strutting around the lodge like a peacock or the Hawaiian shirt he was wearing on the dock. Bruce, I owed you one.
For Dan Brazinha and his exclusive group the fishing started off a little slow, however persistence paid off and some guests closed the trip strong. Burke Perry managed a 34lber and the Stepper’s found a matching pair of 30’s. Chicken Halibut seemed to be plentiful out there, gobbling up just about everything including the large plastic grubs the guides have been trying lately.
We are awaiting your arrival and are excited about the season ahead. I will keep you posted on our weekly adventures now that we are in the season’s groove. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
