The Outpost Reports

June 30 – July 4, 2008

Yahoo….The Scott Burns Exclusive group of guests galloped into town from Calgary with their guns a blazing and experienced what Mr. Burns described as “the perfect trip and the best ever”. That is the ultimate compliment as The Burns Exclusive guests have been coming to the Outpost Lodge for 7 seasons. Calm seas, warm temperatures, sunshine, great fishing, Canada Day celebrations, fine wine, fine dining/service, good friends and pristine wilderness was the supporting cast of characters that made this the “perfect trip”!

Mike Bird established a new season high for Halibut when he landed his 207 lb giant. Coached by guide Brent (Cat Scratch – Barney - Boat Four) Maracle, Mike caught the Hali at Taylor Shoal in 200 feet of water. They were reeling in their lines to come back to the Lodge for dinner when the Hali struck with a vengeance. It was a scene to be remembered as the guests scrambled out of the hot tub and ran down to the dock in their house coats to take pictures of Mike’s monster. Guide Kevin (Kermode) Sturgess also coached Mike into catching a prize winning 35 lb Tyee at Selveson Point on a 6 inch spoon in 92 feet of water. The rod tip was buried in the water as the Chinook peeled off 150 feet of line while jumping twice in the air!

Scott Burns was awarded a Tyee pin for his 30 lb Chinook and also landed a 80 lb Hali at Taylor Shoal in 143 feet of water. Tyee pins were also awarded to Ralph Scurfield, 35 lb Spring – Mike Burns, 32 lb Spring and Robert Kulhawy 30 lb Spring. We would also like to thank Robert for his wonderful selection of fine wines. A special thank you also goes out to Peter Pastewka for choosing the total catch and release option. Overall the group caught 39 Springs….now that’s a Calgary Stampede….great job partners, see you all next year!
