The Outpost Reports

July 7 – 11, 2008

“After a forty-minute up and down battle she finely surfaced! She was amazingly placid while we measured her and took a picture. We all agreed the release would benefit the resource for generations” exclaimed guide Robert (Picasso) Gordy. David and Marie Dore had made the right decision when they released their 250 pound Halibut. Caught at Tian Islets in 237 feet of water on a jig it was a mammoth struggle to bring the fish to the surface and one David and Marie will never forget…..well done folks!

The Platinum and Terval group of guests had the time of their life during this trip. In between arguing about their favorite hockey teams, the Leafs, Wings or Flames, they experienced some great fishing in the Charlottes. Barry Carte, coached by guide Quinn (Al Pacino) Lowen, caught a 39 lb Chinook at Selveson in 80 feet of water using a spoon. The fish made “three explosive runs around the boat and had everyone electrified with adrenaline and anticipation” stated Quinn. Bruce Cowan, coached by guide Brent (Cat Scratch – Barney – Boat 4) Maracle, caught a 32 lb Chinook at Selveson in 73 feet of water on a plug. Brent also coached Bob Heath when he landed his 30 lb Chinook at Selveson in 83 feet of water on a plug. Sheldon Gardiner was also awarded a Tyee pin for catching a 30 lb Chinook.

Hats off to young Josh Foster when a Chinook ripped the rod & reel out of his hands and into the ocean. Josh immediately reached down into the depths and with the help of guide  Ken (Kenny B) Beatty retrieved the rod & reel and still managed to successfully reel in a 25 lb Chinook at the same time…..unbelievable!

We would also like to thank Sheldon Gardiner and his brother Shaun for introducing the billiard game called Crud to the Outpost….a great end- to- end group action game that thrilled everyone! I would also like to thank Anna Carte for her fire starting expertise…..thanks folks for a very entertaining trip, the stories will be told for a long time coming….see you all soon!
