The Outpost Reports

June 9 – 13, 2008

What a glorious morning it is as I write this report. The magnificent view of our cove is mesmerizing. The forest is spotted with white feathered eagle heads, several eagles glide back and forth in front of the lodge, two Sitka Deer are grazing by the side of the beach, the sun is shining and the seas are calm. The guides are heading out to sea with the Trane BC Exclusive guests and they are in awe of this wilderness sanctuary!

It was a glorious day in the Charlottes and you could sense something special was about to happen. For the Bill and Todd McGaw Father and Son team it will always be remembered as a special time in their relationship. Coached by Ken (Kenny B) Beatty Bill caught a 62 lb Chinook in 30 feet of water using a white/red/black coyote spoon off of Gillan Point. The fish was hooked deep and actually swallowed the lure. Bill was the only one to touch the rod and played the 62 lb beauty perfectly.

What a great start to the season. The Outpost is leading the June Spring Salmon Challenge Derby with a 42 lb Spring and also have the largest Spring caught at 62 lbs. For the Trane BC Exclusive guests it was a special trip that will be remembered by everyone. Todd McGaw also caught a 30 lb Tyee, Kelly Burnham landed an 80 lb Hali and Mark and Craig Chapman took home 58 lb and 43 lb Hali’s. We would also like to thank Trane BC for their generous donation to the Queen Charlotte Islands local Salmon Enhancement and Local Stream/Habitat Restoration projects.
