Hello from The Clubhouse here on Langara Island.
Just in from a full day on the water out on the east side, hiding from the northwest gales. Fishing is on and the bites are plentiful.
A quick report here, because the hands are sore from baiting many hooks today. Yes, the fish have moved into our area in large numbers. The coho have shown up, and this particular run is above average in size for sure, with one today topping 14 lbs in Korey’s boat. Our boat saw four coho at 11 lbs, and many more in the 8 to 10 lb range.
The chinook are showing in huge numbers at Cohoe Point and Andrews, and offshore in 200 feet of water as well. Everywhere, really. From 25 feet down to 150 feet, and all points in between. Most of these fish are 12 to 18 lbs, but the odd 25 lb fish is showing up, and we had a couple of tyee to report.
Mark Zivot released a 30 lb tyee out at Cohoe, in tight to shore, pictured below.

This fish was taken at 55 feet on a cut-plug herring and put up a battle on the 12-foot Sage rod. We hit a bunch of chinook, but this one proved to be the best fish of our trip.
Brent in Boat 7 worked hard and found a very nice 36 lb tyee, which they carefully released off Gunia, pictured below.

Liam broke the ice with a 30 lb tyee with his guest Jeff, in his top-secret spot, Popoff Point. This fish was actually taken today, shortly after lunch and a mandatory three-hour nap, lol, as his guest relayed to me.

The wind has effectively shut down the west side this week. The halibut are getting a deserved break, as we can’t get out in these winds for a few days. So Brent decided to troll for halibut in our bay, close to the dock, one line hugging the bottom and one at salmon depth. What a surprise they had… a 34 lb tyee, literally hooked spitting distance from the dock. That is a great lucky fish, and well done boys.

Brenda S. and her sons fished with me in Lepas Bay for most of their trip, hiding from westerly gales, and found plenty of squid-eating chinook. Pictured below is a reward tag, pink, on the side of a retained 20 lb fish. We will send that tag in to DFO and hopefully receive some news on where and when this fish was tagged. This is the first spaghetti-tagged fish I have guided in way too many years of guiding, lol.

So, be excited. The incoming trips will be busy. The winds are predicted to slow down later in the week. Until then, we are playing hard on the east side. All the boats are seeing many, many bites, and fishing that is somewhat staggering at times. Every year is different, with the timing of runs and sizes, but the big surprise so far is the size of these coho currently snapping at everything we present to them.
It’s that time. Lucy and myself need sleep, so until the next report…
Goodnight from The Clubhouse,
