The 2025 season has now completed and will go down for sure as a great season full of fish and good times. The fishing stayed strong through September for all species, with the larger coho arriving in some numbers and the chinook fishing staying strong. The weather was spectacular for all the Sept. trips; that in itself made for a fantastic atmosphere at the Clubhouse.
The Regehr group, to start things off Sept. 1, took advantage of great chinook fishing and blue skies. Below are a few photos of the action out at Cohoe Point. Here is Kenton with his retained 28 lb chinook — this fish we found at 75 feet off the rigger, fishing with a cut-plug herring and a dummy flasher clipped on just above the cannonball.
The large coho showed up as well; here Paul proudly shows off a very nice specimen, 18 lbs. Not many this perfect come into the dock these days. Well played, Paul.
Of course, at Langara Island and the Clubhouse, the ultimate goal is to catch and release a tyee chinook salmon, and we found a few in Sept. Out at reliable Cohoe Point, fishing the same 75 feet, Richard White was pretty excited, as was I, with this catch — a 36 lb tyee we released to finish the trip to the spawning river and complete her trip.
The White group of eight were celebrating a milestone birthday, and the whole family saw great fishing, with two tyee and plenty of take-home 20 lbers. Pete was also guiding the group and released this 32 lber. Pete again said they angled this fish in the same place, same depths. Thanks for forwarding the pic, Pete.
Our last trip concluded on the 11th, with the fishing and weather holding just great, all boats catching fish, with chinook in the twenties somewhat abundant and the coho continuing to grow. Lucy and I were out with the Payne's, and we found plenty of chinook out off Cohoe Point in a variety of depths, with some coming up from 190 feet. The chinook we encountered were consistently in the 18 to 22 lb size with a few mid-twenties. We had no issue easily grabbing the daily chinook limits and heading in early to enjoy the Clubhouse decks and the summer weather.
Lucy above cheering on Chris and his chinook!
Chris above and his 23 lb chinook, heading back to Florida for a feast! The coho were biting as well as I have seen in September, and fish like the one below were not uncommon.
The last day of the season was an easy one for most boats as the fish continued to push through. A short run out to Cohoe Point, and this was what Chris and I found in short order to conclude the season.
The chinooks were in numbers and easy fishing with the aid of the Scotty downriggers, chasing bait deep off Cohoe Point. The bait continued to show, as did the fish, out 300 yards off the point. On the fishing side of things, easily the best weather and consistent fishing in many years out off Langara.
The guides have now dispersed from the island as we have moved our fleet of boats into Masset for storage and updates. Planning has already begun for 2026, and stay tuned for updates here and on the various media releases from the lodge. A huge thank you to all those that fished with us in 2025, and we look forward to seeing everyone in 2026.
As well, a huge thank you to the guides that helped make these moments happen. We have a great team in place that love doing what they do.
As for Lucy? She is back in Victoria taking in some sun and beach time — well deserved, Lucy. She loves seeing the fish at the boat and did not board the plane heading south easily lol.
Once again, thank you all and see you in 2026!
Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, and Lucy
