CH REPORT: Game On at The Clubhouse - June 18, 2026

June 18, 2026

A warm sunny evening and a dry weather pattern has now set up here at Langara, winds gusty northwesterly. By the looks of it, we will be fishing in these conditions for the next week or so.

The fishing has been relatively great, with most of the fishing concentrated out on the east side of Langara and Coho Point. There has been consistent chinook fishing, with fish ranging in the 12 to 18 lb range, with plenty of 18 to 23 lbers for sure.

The annual Beef, Barbecue, Bourbon trip saw some good fishing. Again, we spent our time out at Cohoe Point and found chinook plentiful. I fished most days with Dyane Legge and Lucy, and we had some great weather and a few very nice chinook. Below is a photo or two of Dyane and Lucy enjoying a fun day.

The fish are so bright at this time of year and in prime condition for the table. Below is a released silver bullet now on its way to feast on herring and put on some pounds.

Into mid-June now, and we are seeing the fish feasting on herring and, depending on location, squid. I had Mike S. and his brother Ken down the west side, and we had a few days of hot fishing, with our top fish hitting 36 lbs, which of course was released. I was lucky to have my number one guide, Brent, close by, and he snapped some great pics for us, so thank you, Brent.

This fish took our cut plug at 45 feet in 55 feet of water. What a crazy fight on this mature prime chinook. We revived her in the standard tote of seawater, and she quickly swam off and on her way to fill that belly with more squid.

Mike Smith and a fantastic tyee released.

I am including a picture of the squid I am talking about. These squid were removed from a retained chinook’s stomach while in the cleaning room. I found this quite interesting myself, and it might explain why some of the bites are missed and the fish are hitting softly, almost just mouthing my cut plug but wishing it was a squid.

So that’s a wrap for trip 5, and she’s in the books. Top fish remains at 36 lbs. I have heard of three others at 30 or a bit larger. I did see Kieran weigh in a high twenties yesterday, the 16th. Chantel had a nice day on the 15th, with two mid-twenties in her boat and some excited guests. Liam has snuck in a couple mid-twenties, as has Pete and his guests. Todd has been hot and hiding at the end of the dock. I see him saunter down the dock daily with his tote of above-average chinook. Always fun to chirp him as he goes by boat 4.

We are all warmed up now, and can’t wait to get you out there. See you soon, game on!

Goodnight from the Clubhouse,
Mike Tonnesen, Head Guide, and Lucy

Dyane Legge & Head Dog, Lucy
