Hello once again from Langara Island and the Clubhouse, we are now underway! Opening May 28th this year delivered calm seas, sunshine and, always important, chinook salmon.
We had a very productive trip with all guests and guides busy out in the usual spots. Cohoe Point, the Fish Bowl, Lacy, and Andrew’s were all productive. All boats out on the first trip reported nice average-sized chinook in the 12 to 23 lb size range. A bonus? There were halibut everywhere off the bottom on a deep troll all along the east side of Langara.
Below is a photo of Coral netting a typical chinook in May, on Paul’s boat. The staff had their annual staff derby, and everyone was busy for sure.

Trip two saw some epic weather and larger chinooks, again in most of our popular areas. The Bowl and Lacy were productive for chinook 20 to 24 lbs, and not just the odd one. There was lots of bait around and the fish were holding in these areas. Fish seemed to be found at 40 to 60 feet off the riggers, and 20 pulls was working as well in tight to the shore.
I had Emma and Denise out, from our dynamic office team, and they both had no issue catching and releasing plenty of fish during their stay. With the fishing on fire, the weather better than great, and of course Lucy participating the best she could, we had a memorable, fun time for sure. Below I have included some photos of our adventure out at the Bowl and Lacy Island.

Emma had some nice fishing as well, retaining this 23 lb chinook out at the Bowl. Calm seas and lots of bites were the order of this day.

Below is Lucy impatiently waiting for the first sight of a larger chinook we released out at Lacy. Again, just about perfect weather this day.

A mid-twenties chinook on display above, largest on the boat so far for 2026. Out at Lacy of course, 43 feet on the riggers, cutplug herring. Below I have included a picture of the sounder that day with the vital information on the screen. The slashes are the chinooks rising up and contemplating a snack of herring as we troll along.

And of course June 5 we had a spectacular day of sunshine with some action as well, photo included below.

The weather for the most part has been great, the fish have been participating and the fun has just started here at the Clubhouse. The guides are warmed up and all excited to get you out fishing and catching. Lucy is of course ready to show off her eagle skills as well as her rod watching for sure. Things are great here at Langara, and we are all excited to have you up here in Haida Gwaii exploring this incredible area.
See you soon,
Mike Tonnesen
